Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)

Tenancy

  • User account and root level compartment.


OCI Regions

  • A localized geographic data center that comprises one or more Availability Domains.within a region, they are connected by a very low-latency, high-bandwidth network.
  • Choose a region based on location. You want to be closest to your users.
  • Many times you have data residency and compliance requirements.


Availability Domains AD

  • These are one or more fault-tolerant completely isolated data centers located within a region, but connected to each other by a low-latency, high-bandwidth network.
  •  ADs are isolated from each other, fault-tolerant, and very unlikely to fail together. 
  • Usually 3 ADs within a region

Fault Domains FD

  • Acts as a logical data center within an AD. 
  • A grouping of hardware and infrastructure within an availability domain to provide anti-affinity. 
  • Three FDs per AD.


Compartments

  • A collection of related resources helps to isolate and control access to resources.
  • Compartments can be nested up to six levels
  • Each resource belongs to a single compartment
  • Resources can interact even when they are located in different compartments
  • Resources can be moved from one compartment to another.
  • Resources from different regions can be in the same compartment
  • Can give a group of users access to compartment using policies
